RESEARCH

Dr Clare Britt's research centres around young children’s engagement with art, and creative approaches to pedagogy in early childhood settings, primary schools and art gallery/museum contexts.
Her work draws on poststructural theory, and arts-informed and emergent research methodologies in understanding the complexities of experiences and perspectives of children, families and teachers in these places of learning.
Clare's work has a special focus on the role of the arts in foregrounding children's own perspectives in both research and learning contexts.
Art & Wonder: Young Children and Contemporary Art
The aims of our research are to:
- illuminate the ways in which young children bring meaning to, and make meaning from, engaging with contemporary art within a museum context
- create space for the development of intellectually rich, thoughtful, deep and complex early childhood visual arts pedagogy for the very youngest children
- broaden possibilities for meaningful and practical professional development for Early Childhood Teachers in the museum context and in ECEC settings
- explore the potential for creative reciprocity and cultural exchange in the establishment of connections between artists and young children
- understand more about the impact of actively and regularly welcoming young children, their families and teachers into the context of the public, cultural, creative space of an art gallery - from the perspective of children, their families, their teachers, the artist educators and the museum.
